AFPCS is pleased to announce our new community partnership with Goodwill Helms Academy. Together we will offer GED classes starting Tuesday, March 5th 2024. We are excited to begin this amazing journey to support our families and communities.

On Tuesday, February 6th 2024, AFPCS celebrated 100 days of school. Students and staff were invited to dress like a 100 year old person to commemorate the day. We are 100 days wiser!  

October is National Principals Month and our very own Principal, Mr. Cameron, was featured in Elevate 215’s Gratitude For Our Local School Leaders series highlighting principals in Philadelphia. In October 2023, our students received a visit by world renowned boxer Steph “Cool Boy” Fulton as part of a coat drive he facilitated at various schools in Philadelphia. During his visit at AFPCS, he stopped into classrooms, shared some of his life experiences and spread words of positivity to students and staff throughout the hallways. Fulton donated 90 coats so …

AFPCS hosted a Gratefulness Giveaway the week of the Thanksgiving 2023 holiday where 36 families were provided with full dinners that included turkey or chicken, fresh produce, milk, cheese, eggs, and all the other trimmings. On November 16, 2023, AFPCS hosted a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony on the 4th floor of our elementary school. The event celebrated the completion of construction of the floor and the naming of the Marilyn H. Rivers Innovation Lab. Students and staff attended Harrisburg Advocacy Day on October 17th with AACSC (African American Charter School Coalition). Together, we advocated to protect and expand educational options for students in K-12 schools. Our voices matter and our state elected officials needed to hear from us. Unified, we advocated for student school choice and equity for black and brown schools.

AFPCS held the Scholastic Book Fair in the month of October to give scholars the opportunity to purchase reading materials, educational tools and fun gadgets and gizmos. Scholars enjoyed looking through titles and find materials that peaked their interests. The Scholastic Book Fair empowers scholars to choose their own books as a milestone opportunity to identify and express their own voice. …

On Tuesday, October 10th, #26 Terrell Edmunds joined AFPCS to celebrate the Philadelphia Eagles! Students had the chance to dress down in their favorite player’s gear, make signs for classrooms rooting for our home team, and meet Mr. Edmunds in person. It was a day filled with pride and passion for our Philadelphia sports team at our school. GO BIRDS🦅!
